All youth who have received their 1st Communion are eligible to become an altar server. There are four levels of altar serving:
- Candle Bearers - This role involves bearing the candles in the open procession and during the reading of the Gospel. Candle Bearers also assist at the time of the offertory when the priest receives the gifts of bread and wine from the people of God.
- Cross Bearers - The Cross Bearer carries the cross in the opening and closing processions. They also take on additional responsibilities like holding the book for opening and closing prayers, setting the altar, and ringing the bells.
- Thurifer - The Thurifer is in charge of the incense during the mass. They will lead the opening procession, the gospel procession, and will prepare the incense to be used during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
- Master of Ceremonies (MC) - Taking on the role of MC is a leadership position. The MC is responsible for directing all servers and ministers, as needed, to ensure the liturgy is celebrated properly. The MC anticipates the movements of the Mass, the needs of the priest, and ensures that the altar servers perform their tasks well.
