Summer Stretch 2017

Calling all students entering 6th-8th grade!!!! Worried you might be bored this summer? Worry no more! Summer stretch is a dynamic summer program for students who are entering 6th-8th grade! Summer Stretch continues July 5,12,19 from 8:30am – 4:00pm, and August 2-3. Participants will be dropped off and picked up at Blessed Sacrament Church.

In the mornings we begin with a prayer and a quick Bible study surrounding our theme, We Are God's Hands and Feet: Caring for Our Neighbor. We then load the cars and spend the rest of the morning doing fun service projects around the Rapid City area (Feeding South Dakota, Clarkson Health Care, Humane Society of the Black Hills, etc.). The afternoons are spent doing a fun recreational activity (Putz N Glo, Flags and Wheels, swimming, hiking). August 2nd we will have a poverty simulation in the morning and go to Angostura Reservoir for an overnight campout.

This year’s theme is We Are God's Hands and Feet: Caring for Our Neighbor. Students will learn what the Bible says about how we can care for ALL of God’s creation at home and abroad. Students not only will spend time serving our world but will also learn about how we can use our gifts and talents to help, serve and love everyone as God intends.

What is the cost of Summer Stretch and what does it include?
The cost of summer stretch includes transportation to events, all admission fees to service and recreational activities, and snacks. Cost is $10 per week and can be paid ahead or on that day.

What about lunch?
Students are responsible for bringing their own lunch each week. Blessed Sacrament will provide coolers and areas to fill up water bottles throughout the day. We also will provide students with a snack each day.  Some recreational sites have food for sale – students are welcome to supplement their lunch with treats if they choose to bring money.

What if I have to miss a week or two because of a prior commitment? Can I register for only part of summer stretch?

Can a friend who doesn’t attend Blessed Sacrament register?
Of course. As long as they meet the age requirement they are welcome to join us!

But what about High Schoolers?
Incoming 9th-12th grade students can participate as Jr. Leaders at no charge. Jr. Leaders help lead games, hang out with participants, and spend time getting to know our awesome middle schoolers! Need volunteer hours? High school students who are Jr. Leaders and are in need of service hours for NHS, civics class, scouts, college applications, or any other volunteer requirements are welcome to count any hours they participate in summer stretch. If a High School student has perfect attendance they will receive a total of 56 volunteer hours!

Do you need adult help?
YES! We MUST have adult volunteers to make this a reality. Please indicate on your child’s form if you are able to spend a day or two this summer with some cool kids!

What do participants need to bring each day?
As a minimum, they need a water bottle, lunch, and sunscreen. They will also need to wear a shirt with sleeves (no tank tops) and closed toed shoes (no sandals or flip-flops).
